1. Citizens have a right to hear and obtain accurate information from our legislators about the actions of government and how it is addressing our concerns. We expect honesty from our leaders and we want to see them in town hall meetings where they can listen to our concerns and hear our wishes.

  2. We elect legislators to represent “us” in our government, not wealthy donors or a single individual. We're worried about the political influence of billionaires and the financial conflicts they could cause. We want to stop billionaires secretly funding elections for their advantage and running our federal government.

  3. We are very concerned that our legislators are blindly following one individual who is implementing the goals of a document entitled Project 2025; the agenda of an ultra conservative organization who has planned the dismantling of our government. We do not believe their plan will reduce the federal deficient as Republican voters may believe.

  4. We will advocate for the freedom of the press and the media's right to provide accurate and ongoing information about government actions. A free press is crucial for democracy, as seen in dictatorships. We are worried that one media outlet is harming our democracy by sharing misleading and manipulated information.

  5. We expect our elected officials to respect judges and their decisions. We consider threats to judges and any elected official a serious offense. We are determined to maintain three equal branches of government as was the intent of the US Constitution and support the rule of law as it applies to everyone.

  6. We demand due process of the law for everyone. The US Constitution was founded under the principal that government should be of laws rather than of citizens.

  7. The purpose of government is to provide leadership and services to citizens. We oppose privatization of any government service and handing over agencies or services to for-profit companies.

  8. A secure and respectful retirement is essential in America. Social Security is more than a government program; it's something everyone deserves after a lifetime of work. We demand our lawmakers protect this fund for our ourselves and our children. We will fight any attempts to privatize this fund and to eliminate convenient office locations in Michigan.

  9. We want lawmakers to value personal freedom and protect our private information. We oppose all efforts of the Republican Party to gather our personal data for unknown reasons and to restrict our ability to make our own decisions on health care and reproduction.

  10. Health care is a right for everyone. We back leaders who work to lower drug prices and support negotiations for affordable medications and health insurance. We want Medicare, Medicaid, prescription drug coverage, and quality health care everyone, especially our veterans.

  11. We support a fair tax system that funds legislatively approved programs. We believe that increasing the national debt by $5 trillion for tax cuts for the wealthy and large corporations is not fair. We want tax laws that ensure our rich citizens and big corporations contribute their fair share. The progressive tax structure has been changed to the advantage of the wealthy, we want it returned to its original intent. Our priority is Main Street, not Wall Street.

  12. We value everyone’s role in democracy and society. Democrats support inclusivity because our diverse community needs everyone working together to enhance our lives and achieve personal fulfillment. We aim to make positive choices and reject decisions driven by hate.

  13. Democrats expect legislators to “walk across the aisle” to work with members of the other party to improve laws that benefit our lives and to make legislation fair. We worry about extremists in the legislature who want quick changes instead of a thoughtful, long-term approach to constructive change.

  14. Every person should be able to vote easily. In a broader sense, our “neighbors” work as election judges, and we trust them to run fair elections, rejecting claims of “rigging”. We distrust those who cannot admit the outcome of the 2020 presidential election. We strongly oppose Republican gerrymandering and efforts to suppress voting.

  15. We are worried about the Republican plan to manipulate the courts to further their agenda. We expect our judges to interpret the law and the intent of the constitution, without consideration of their personal ideology or the wishes of their wealthy benefactors. We support term limits for Supreme Court Judges.

  16. We disagree with leaders who deny climate change, and work tirelessly to support legislation that addresses this issue and legislation that protects our vulnerable environment.

  17. It is essential that we elect lawmakers who understand that a strong economy requires good roads and other infrastructure. The spending gap for roads and other infrastructure that exists between northern and southern Michigan is a worry.

  18. We believe small businesses are vital to our local economy and support laws that invest in them.

  19. Our country needs structures that educate an informed electorate capable of critical thinking and who are effective in filling roles at work and in our communities. We back technical and general education that helps people secure good jobs that pay enough to support families in northern Michigan. A thriving economy needs an educated citizenry capable of competing world wide, we demand quality public education for all.

  20. We support science and encourage everyone to get vaccinated against the spread of contagious diseases. We support agencies that monitor the evolution of disease agents and work to develop programs that minimize their spread. We support cancer research at our research universities.

  21. We back laws and legislators who work to create more housing options for people and families while lowering homeownership costs.

  22. We support leaders who think countries are stronger when they unite against ruthless dictators. We support all efforts to combat cyber wars against our infrastructure and to protect our personal information. We demand an effective military to protect our democracy against all forms of invasion. We are very concerned about huge reductions in the budget of our military that is being enacted by the current administration.

  23. We think rational gun control of assault weapons helps lower mass shootings and affords more safety to children in schools. Democrats are gun owners and hunters; we are able to make rational choices about gun ownership.

What We Stand For
